Communion Message
God is Pro Life
January 22, 2006
Pastor Leighton Sheley
The Supreme Court took something that had been illegal and made it legal; something that had been wrong and tried to declare it right. That's why we as people do not put our faith in the philosophies of mankind, which are constantly shifting like the sands of the desert, but rather we put our trust in the word of the Lord and in the Lord who is the same yesterday, today, and for ever and does not change.
So that there is no ambiguity here let me declared plainly - God is pro life. God is pro life. God created life. Jesus came that we might have life and more abundantly. God is pro life.
Now God did provide for capital punishment. You can read the details in your Bible in Exodus chapters 20, 21 and following, and there are certain provisions or certain situations where God says this life is to be terminated. Among that list is never found inconvenience or unwanted. That is not a valid reason to terminate human life. Now some might say well it's only a fetus. That's like saying, it's only an infant or only a toddler. Being a fetus is a description of a phase in the growth of a human being.
The Scripture uses the same word to describe a child inside of the womb and a child outside of the womb, and does not differentiate the two. The Scriptures have references in both the Old Testament and New to people being filled with the Holy Spirit while they're still in the womb. Psalms indicates that the womb is a tabernacle in which the Lord is at work weaving together, preparing the child.
Now we cannot control what the supreme government says, but we can bear an influence in our society, and in order to bear an influence we must not be silent. We must stand against those who try to proliferate this godless philosophy and the lie. That lie has resulted in many victims, and I'm not just talking about the children, because there are many women whose lives have been devastated as the result of accepting that lie in either ignorance or desperation.
The Scriptures say if My people who are called by My name, that's us, will humble themselves and pray and seek a My face and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. We need the Lord to hear our prayer. We need the Lord to forgive our sin, and we need the Lord to heal our land. Amen? Would you bow with me in prayer.
Lord we are ever so thankful that You are so gracious and merciful to us, as individuals, as families, as a community, as a nation, as a world. Lord we come before You this day and we beg once again Your mercy and Your forgiveness upon us, and Lord we ask You to give us the courage and wisdom to go forth and bear an influence in our society that nudges it more towards godliness than godlessness. Your word says, Lord, if we confess our sins You are faithful and just and will forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and this day Lord we ask You to forgive us our sin and cleanse us in Jesus' name.
Let's partake of bread and also the cup.
Thank you Lord for Your mercy endures for ever. Thank you Lord that Your mercies are new every morning. Thank you Lord, in Jesus' name we pray, and all God's people said, amen. Let's take a few moments and greet those who come to worship with us today.
