Communion Message
Grace Greater Than Our Sin
September 28, 2003
Pastor Leighton Sheley
There might be some among us this day who are looking for direction, who are looking for purpose, who are looking for hope; and you can find that this day in Jesus Christ. When we go to our knees is just a moment just say, Lord, make Your salvation real to me. And the Scriptures say He will hear that prayer and He will save, because God is not willing that any should perish. And God will put the Holy Spirit in you and that Holy Spirit will be faithful in transforming you a little more each day into the image of Christ.
And there might be some among us this day, both believers and unbelievers, who say, well, God can't possibly forgive what I have done. Marvelous, grace of our loving Lord, grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt. Where sin abounds, grace abounds greater. Yonder on Calvary's mount out poured--there where the blood of the Lamb was spilt--we receive grace, grace, God's grace, grace that will pardon our sin and cleanse us from it. Grace that is greater than all of our sin. The Scriptures say at times like this we should examine our self. I'd like to invite you, if you're physically able, to kneel in the presence of our Lord and Savior.
Lord we thank you for inviting us into relationship, into friendship, into communion with You. What is truly amazing is that we who are so unholy can come into the presence of You who are so holy. And Lord, we can't fully understand that. We understand the concept. We can only stand in Your presence because of Jesus Christ paying the wages of our sin on Calvary's cross. For all we like sheep have gone astray, each of us turning to our own sinful ways. But the Lord hath laid on Him, Jesus, the equity of us all, and now we are clothed in a righteousness that is by faith in Christ.
Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness and Your goodness and Your mercy and Your grace towards us. We ask You to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And the elements we hold remind us that You keep your promises. Let's partake of the bread, and also of the cup.
Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord. Thank you Lord. In Jesus' name we pray, and all God's people said, amen. Let's stand and let's greet those who come to worship with us today.
