Communion Message
(The Gospel story in hymn)
July 8-9, 2000
Pastor Donald Sheley
For I have received from the Lord that which I also delivered unto you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as oft as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
When we come to services like this I'm fully aware that there are some amongst us, this may be your first occasion, and you’re searching for God. Maybe you find that your heart is hungry and you want reality, you want purpose, you want direction. We feel with all of our hearts that Jesus Christ is man's answer. In Him is life abundant and life eternal. Instead of me preaching the gospel to you today, the singers are going to sing what I think is a marvelous, marvelous hymn. Some years ago I was away praying and studying, and I love to play worship tapes as I read the Scriptures and this song came on and I thought to myself, what a marvelous song for communion. So what I'm asking you to do is as we kneel I want you to listen very clearly and the gospel from beginning to end will be preached by the singers. When the singers are finished just simply lift your heart and say, Jesus, here I am, I'm ready. Let's kneel, shall we?
(Music begins)
O broken Lamb of God
It was for me He died
For all my sin and shame
My Lord was crucified
But through His brokenness
I am made whole again
And I see loveliness
In Christ the broken Lamb
The Lamb of God
Became the sacrifice
It was my debt
And still He paid the price
For every sin
And all iniquity
The precious Lamb of God
Was broken for you and me
The precious Lamb of God
Was broken for you and me
Glory, glory, glory to the Lamb (Repeat)
For He is glorious
And worthy to be praised
The Lamb upon the Throne
And unto Him
We lift our voice in praise
The Lamb upon the Throne
They took Him from the cross
And laid Him in a tomb
Where hope seemed all but lost
Their hearts were filled with gloom
But early Sunday morn
He rose triumphantly
And purchased for all men
The hope to live eternally
The Lamb of God
Became the Lord of lords
And He will reign
As King forevermore
He conquered death
And now He holds the key
The Lamb of God bought
Eternal life for you and me
The Lamb of God bought
Eternal life for you and me
Amazing love
How can it be
That thou my God
Shouldst die for me
Wonder of wonders, Lord Jesus, that You would come to this earth, You would pay the penalty in Your death at Calvary for our transgressions. You became our substitute and You died so that we could live. Amazing, absolutely amazing. This morning, Lord Jesus, we bow before You with deep appreciation to know that You've touched our lives with Your love and Your grace and Your forgiveness, and we are a part of Your eternal family and we have the gift of life eternal. Ah, what privileged mortals we be to be loved by Thee. Thank you for the cross. Thank you for taking our place dear Jesus, and thank you for being our wonderful Savior. Let's take the bread together, shall we? And then the cup. Amen, amen. Let's stand and greet one another, shall we?
